SIECUS Statement on Texas Law (SB8)
Today, millions of Texans had their rights taken away when a near-total abortion ban was allowed to become law. Texas law bans abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy – often before a person even knows they are pregnant. The passage of this law is the closest anti-abortion activists have come to overturning Roe v. Wade.
An obvious infringement on human rights, the new Texas law is especially nefarious because it institutes a new level of vigilantism by encouraging and financially incentivizing individuals to report and sue anyone thought to be aiding and abetting an individual seeking an abortion.
SIECUS is here, continuing to fight for abortion access and we stand in solidarity with the people of Texas and the organizations who are working diligently to fight this law. We ask that you consider making a donation to Texas Abortion Funds, if you are able.
