(Washington, DC) — In response to the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on September 18, 2020, Christine Soyong Harley, SIECUS’ President & CEO, released the following statement:

“For decades, Justice Ginsburg fought for true justice in this country, working to honor and advance the civil rights of every person under the law. As we mourn Justice Ginsburg’s passing, we also celebrate her legacy. As a lawyer, she argued and won landmark cases on gender equality before the Supreme Court. She championed women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and human rights at large. She was the second woman to serve as a justice on the Supreme Court. She inspired people around the world to raise their voices in response to injustice; to find power in dissent. And she will be sorely missed. We also urge our nation’s leaders to honor the late Justice’s ‘most fervent wish’ that she not be replaced until a new president is elected.

Rest in power and peace, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.”
