Statement by Sexuality Information and Education Council of United States (SIECUS) President & CEO, Chitra Panjabi:

“The events that took place in Charlottesville, VA this weekend were equally horrifying and saddening. Our thoughts and condolences are with the families that lost loved ones and the brave people who received injuries standing against hatred and bigotry.

SIECUS harshly condemns white supremacy, racism, and Nazism that remain prevalent in our society today. The existence of these viewpoints affects all areas of our lives, and we cannot effectively advocate for people’s lifelong health and wellbeing without also working to combat persistent racist and violent ideologies that make community members feel unsafe.

We stand in solidarity with communities of color across the nation and stand firm in our commitment to combat discrimination and hate to ensure social justice for all.”
