SIECUS Applauds the Nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court

For Immediate Release:

February 25, 2022

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, President Biden announced his historic nomination of nominating the Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. Judge Jackson is the first Black woman in history to be nominated to the highest court in the land.

Chris Soyong Harley, president and CEO of SIECUS: Sex Ed for Social Change released the following statement:

“SIECUS applauds President Biden for his consequential decision and congratulates Judge Jackson on her historic nomination to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. It is beyond time to have such an important person and perspective represented on the nation’s highest court. If confirmed, Judge Jackson will be the sixth woman and third Black Justice to serve as a Supreme Court Justice.

Her nomination is a tribute to trailblazers like Thurgood Marshall, who became the first Black Justice to serve on the bench in 1967, and to the legacy of racial justice and civil rights movements that continue to call with urgency for a judicial system that recognizes all Americans as deserving of basic rights of dignity, respect, and equitable adjudication.  SIECUS celebrates Judge Jackson for offering a new beacon of hope for the future in America.”
