President Biden has Addressed the Nation, We Must Deliver Progress for Our Youth

WASHINGTON – In response to the 2022 State of the Union address, Christine Soyong Harley, President and CEO of SIECUS: Sex Ed for Social Change, released the following statement:

“As the world is facing unprecedented times of division, we commend President Biden for his incredible efforts to bring our nation together to rebuild and restore America’s faith in our democracy by highlighting the need to build and invest in our country and our people.

“This includes his remarks to build an inclusive America for everyone, specifically addressing the onslaught of discriminatory state laws targeting transgender youth across the country. We applaud his call on Congress to pass the bipartisan Equality Act that protects LGBTQ+ youth, and urge the Biden-Harris administration and Congress to continue to deliver on their oaths to keep all of our youth safe.

The Real Education and Access for Healthy Youth Act (REAHYA) delivers these much needed promises for the youth in our nation. REAHYA addresses critical issues our young people face today, by providing education and access to care, with a focus on comprehensive sex education and funding for mental health for our most marginalized youth.

“But we cannot stop there.

“SIECUS echo’s President Biden’s call to protect Reproductive Justice by calling for Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act which affirms access to comprehensive women’s health, including a woman’s right to choose.

“We thank President Biden for highlighting the important work that has been done, and the work that needs to be done moving forward.”
