Emily Shetty is the Founding Principal of Step Up Advocacy. She is a Delegate for the Maryland state legislature representing District 18, and brings an insider’s perspective to politics, as a former senior aide to a Democratic Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee; a Committee Counsel to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee; the Senior Director of Federal Legislative Affairs at a large cancer patient organization; and a former private sector lobbyist.
Prior to starting Step Up Advocacy, Emily served as a Democratic consultant to two boutique bipartisan firms, where she provided Democratic messaging and federal government relations strategy advice to a variety of healthcare clients including patient groups, provider groups and life science groups. Prior to that, Emily managed the federal legislative affairs portfolio of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, focusing on ensuring sustainable access for patients to affordable, coordinated, quality healthcare. She trained hundreds of grassroots and grasstops advocates on how to hone their message and their story to effect change in Congress.
Emily graduated from Duke University with a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics and a Certificate in Markets and Management. She then earned her J.D. from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. Emily is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association.
