Not a Drill: We Need You to #ProtectOurCare

July 25, 2017

Today, senators voted to begin debate on a bill that has yet to be released, but will at the very least repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This signifies policymakers have taken yet another major step toward turning back the progress we have made advancing access to health care coverage and services in this country.

SIECUS believes everyone has the right to health care, not only to ensure sexual and reproductive health, but also to maintain overall health and wellbeing. Unfortunately, the result of today’s vote verifies that the overwhelming majority of Republican senators value political victories over the desires, needs, and lives of their constituents.

Even more shockingly, the motion to begin repeal efforts – jeopardizing health care for millions of Americans – was passed with no bill and no plan for what comes next.

That’s why we need you to call Congress today!

We know the “motion to proceed” means that the Senate is one step closer to taking insurance away from at least 22 million and as many as 32 million people, particularly low-income people and people of color across the country.

When it comes to making decisions on our nation’s health care, we deserve transparent, thoughtful consideration and debate that put people first, politics second.

SIECUS stands with the millions who continue to fight against efforts to repeal the ACA and advocate for the health and rights of all individuals and we hope you will join us, too.

Congress needs to hear from you now more than ever. Here’s how to reach them:

  1. Call 202-224-3121 to be connected to your Senators and Representatives (Find your Senators and Representative by using your ZIP code).
  2. Identify yourself: share your name, city, and state. Make sure to say you’re a constituent!
  3. Share your own message or our sample one below:

“The bills introduced in the Senate and the House to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act would result in millions of people losing their health insurance and having to pay more for less coverage. Access to health care coverage and care is essential to ensuring lifelong sexual and reproductive health and overall wellbeing. I urge Senator/Rep. [Name] to #ProtectOurCare and oppose the bill!”
