Congress Isn't Getting the Message

July 14, 2017

It’s time to get back on those phones!

Yesterday, the House Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies fiscal year (FY) 2018 funding bill passed out of its Appropriations Subcommittee along party lines. This funding bill is a direct threat to the sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing of our nation’s young people.

Call your Representative today and tell them to oppose the House funding bill!

This callous funding bill would completely eliminate funding for the Office of Adolescent Health’s Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program (TPPP) and continue to underfund the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s school-based HIV prevention efforts within the Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH). Unsurprisingly, the bill also proposes a 33% increase for the competitive abstinence-only-until-marriage “sexual risk avoidance” program.

As the House Appropriations Committee prepares to consider the bill next week, we need you to contact your Representative! Help us tell Congress just how critical funding for non-shaming, non-stigmatizing, and science-based adolescent sexual health promotion programs are in meeting the needs and rights of young people in your community.
