Six Step Guide to Calling Congress

6 Tips for Calling Congress

1. Call 202-224-3121 to be connected to your Senators and Representative. (Find your Senators and Representative using your ZIP code.)

2. Identify yourself: Share your name, city, and state. Make sure to say you're a constituent!

3. Share your message.

“Young people deserve sex ed that gives them the tools and information they need to stay healthy, NOT the shame and stigma perpetuated by so-called, 'sexual risk avoidance' programs -- which is actually just a new name for the same, failed, abstinence-only-until-marriage approach. I urge Representative/Senator ____ to end funding for these programs and, instead, support real sex ed."

"I am calling to urge [Senator/Representative Name] to support the Real Education for Healthy Youth Act.

When it comes to Sex Ed in this country, we are failing our young people. With over $2 billion dollars wasted on ineffective, stigmatizing abstinence-only programs, Congress can do more to ensure young people get real, comprehensive sexuality education. As a concerned constituent, I hope my [Senator/Representative] would share my passion for equipping young people with the information they need to stay safe and ensure lifelong sexual health.

I urge [Senator/Representative Name] to support The Real Education for Healthy Youth Act!"

4. Thank the staffer for their time (and their office's support if indicated).

5. Repeat steps #1 through #4 with the remaining members of your congressional delegation.

6. Tell us how your calls went through this brief Congressional Calls Feedback Form.
